New Image Upload Page

Friday, July 31st, 2009

NOTE: There are a few little bugs on the image collection page. We are working on them and will update this page when they are squashed.

A few days ago, we upgraded our image upload page. This is the third or fourth page you will come across while placing your ads.

Here is the old image upload page. If you have an older browser or a browser with an old (or no) version of Shockwave Flash installed, this is the version of the page you will see. By the way, if you want to download the latest version of Shockwave Flash player onto your computer, click this link and follow the instructions.

As you can see, there could be a few problems with a page like this. The main issue we were having was the page expiring when members were trying to upload a few larger images. That takes time and sometimes it took too much time. The website reacted by showing a blank white page.

Here is the new image upload page.

As you can see, it’s a little better looking.

There are some fundamental differences between this new page and the old page.

First, the new page needs Shockwave Flash player to run. Don’t worry, most of you already have this installed on your computer. For you who don’t, click this link and follow the instructions to download it.

Second, this new page allows you to upload one photo at a time, minimizing the “white page” occurrences.

Third, you can now play with your images a little bit right on the image upload page. You can drop and drop to change the order of how the images display in your ad, you can edit and delete the images as well.

There are a few things we would like to point out that a few members have brought to our attention. Notice the red circles on the image above. The first red circle is the “upload” button. After you choose each image, you need to click that upload button. This needs to be done for each image. The next red button is the “continue” button. After you are finished uploading all your images (or if you decide not to upload any at all), click this continue button. After that, you will be brought to the next page.

Now, as with any new feature, there may be a few hick-ups. As always be sure to contact us if you find any. We will tackle them as fast as we can.

Current Registration Issue

Tuesday, July 21st, 2009

We would like to report a small issue.

Yesterday, we did network wide upgrades. With these upgrades, a small number of users have reported trouble registering for membership. The common issue described is that they are brought back to the registration page after they fill in all the required registration fields. On the page they are brought to, there is an error message that reads, “Please choose state.”

We are aware of this issue and are working to resolve it. So far, we are able to duplicate the issue by using Internet Explorer version 7 and Windows XP. If you are using Internet Explorer version 7 and happen to have Firefox installed on your computer, please try using that. Also, we haven’t had any issues while using Internet Explorer version 8.

We appreciate your patience while we work on this.

UPDATE: 7/22/09

We have isolated this issue to only those users trying to register at our website using Internet Explorer version 7. We have discovered the problem and have a fix in place, unfortunately, this fix must roll out with our next scheduled upgrade. The upgrade is planned to be implemented in the next few weeks.

What can you do in the meantime?

If you are having issues registering and would still like to get on board with our website (which we sure would appreciate), you can simply upgrade Internet Explorer to version 8 or just download Firefox. Both browsers aren’t having any issues with our websites and work wonderfully.

Here are some links for those websites:

- Download Firefox
- Upgrade Internet Explorer

Now remember, we aren’t endorsing either of these products listed above. We are just stating that both of these products work well with our websites and are used by millions of people worldwide.

Thank you again for your patience and understanding.

UPDATE: 7/27/09

We have begun upgrading our websites to fix the registration issue. So far, we have upgraded PetLeeg.com, WebLeeg.com, CycleLeeg.com, AutoLeeg.com and BoatLeeg.com and the issue seems to have been cleared up. Please let us know if you still can not register properly. REMEMBER – please hit “F5″ on your keyboard to do a full page refresh. If you don’t so this, your browser may be still loading the old version of the registration page.

With this upgrade came a few small bugs that are unrelated to this current issue. We will be spending the remainder of the day eliminating them.

Thank you.

Why Should I Describe My Photo?

Thursday, July 9th, 2009

A few days ago, we added some small red text to the photo collection page of the ad placement process on our classifieds websites. This red text said, “Be sure to describe your photo.”

The reason we added this little reminder is because we have been noticing a lack of photo descriptions in people’s ads across the board. We always wondered why this was…why aren’t our members describing their photos while uploading them? We kind of chalked it up to not really knowing how important it is.

As people who are pretty involved in the web, we know the power of a good photo description. You see, so much of the internet these days has to do with search. Every bit of text on a website is read by a search engine and text that is located close to a photo is generally perceived as describing that photo. Why is this important? Well, because if you are placing an ad, the assumption is that you want people to view that ad. By adding a photo and describing it, you are opening your ad up to a whole new world of search…image search.

If you don’t already know, Google, Yahoo!, Bing, etc…all have really powerful image search capabilities. These capabilities can bring people who are interested in your product right to your ad’s doorstep.

Here is an example: Say you have a 1999 Kawasaki KX 125 for sale. You place an ad on our website, CycleLeeg, in hopes that you sell your motorcycle. You write a great title and description and drive many visitors to your ad by way of the regular search in search engines. Did you know that if you simply ad a photo with a good photo description, you could drive even more visitors via the image search section of the same search engines? The next time someone is using Google Image Search, looking for a picture of a Kawasaki KX 125, they may very well see your ad photo. If they click on the photo, they will be brought to your ad. It’s so easy to do and it doesn’t even cost anything.

So, next time you place an ad, make sure you do two things; upload at least one photo and be sure to describe it. We even put some nice little red text there to remind you.

How Do I Adjust The Size Of My Photos?

Tuesday, July 7th, 2009

This is a question we get quite a bit and luckily, we have an answer for you.

Since digital cameras are able to take enormous photos these days, many digital photos have rather large file sizes. These large file sizes are sometimes troublesome for a variety of website upload systems. If you have ever tried to post one of your digital photos to a website and received an error message telling you the file is too large, your camera setting is most likely the problem.

So, what can I do?

Well, for starters, you can adjust the resolution of the photos you plan to take right on the camera itself. If you are planning on using your photos for simple postings on the internet, there is no reason to have your camera set to take the highest quality photographs. Actually, the “email” setting would most likely do just fine.

What can I do if I already took the photos?

If you already took the photos and can’t take them again, there are a whole bunch of online photo resizing websites out there that can assist in resizing your photos. They are free and complete the process in a matter of seconds. One website we have had good luck with can be found by clicking here. Basically, you would just upload your original photo, choose the settings and go from there. The instructions are very simple.

Does that help? If so, great. If not, be sure to contact us so we can explain further.

New Sizes For Ad Photos

Saturday, July 4th, 2009

If you haven’t noticed yet, we’ll let you in on it. We recently adjusted the sizing for your ad photos. When you now upload a photo(s) with your ad posting, the images that display on the category page and the ad page will be a bit larger. We did this to improve user experience. That’s a good thing.

The only downside to this adjustment is that the photo(s) that you already uploaded with your ad before we made this change will be a little blurry. Your full size photo will still be clear, but the thumbnail on the ad page as well as the category page will be affected.

To remedy this, simply log into your account, click “My Active Ads” and edit each ad’s photo. Just re-upload the photo and the system will resize the ad properly so it is clear. If you have any issues while doing this, please contact us and we will be happy to help out.
