| Busy Busy Busy! Bookmark & ATC Swaps June 23, 2008 22:19:59There has been so much going on around here, that I have not been able to keep things up to date here. I have been sewing, crafting as well as trying to continue with sorting my craft area. Not always easy when you have a house to clean and hungry mouths that need feeding! So my little blog has been a neglected, but not forgotten. I have been busy also making some RAKs (random acts of kindness) for my CB buddies. I shall be posting them out shortly. Anyhow, onto the topic at hand.... a largish post for you all!
Now that I know this has been received I can now show you pics of the bookmark I made for the swap over at the Crafts Beautiful forum. The theme was cupcakes. I made the template myself because I couldnt find anything else I liked. I have used my Cuttlebug and the swirls embossing folder to the cardstock for the icing and background.
I have also made some ATCs (Artist Tradin Cards) You collect them much like baseball trading cards. I am new to ATCs so these were my first attempts. I quite like how they turned out.
The black and white one was made for a Black & white theme swap. I have entitled it Looking Into the Past. If you look through the window you will see a vintage style dress and bag. The bird ATC is called Glitter Wings and combines a Christmas stamp from Autumn Leaves and a see-ds flower stamp. The bird on the branch is only partially stamped seeing as I didnt want this one to look like Christmas.
Speaking of Christmas, I am in the process of getting things ready for a fair I do around Christmas time. Yes organizing already. It only seems like a few weeks ago I last went! I will be sharing a few details very soon. - [Read more] |
| Naughty but Nice! June 11, 2008 02:11:53Look what the postie has delivered the last couple of days! Some lovely swaps ATCs and RAKs from some wonderful ladies on the CB forum. ATCs are Artist Trading Cards that you collect much like other trading cards and RAKs are Random Acts of Kindness. (This post is a little photo heavy so please be patient!)
Here are the goodies! A gorgeous butterfly ATC and RAK from Sequin. I love how she has slightly offset the patterned butterfly above a gold one, and the trademark sequins too. She has even included some of the papers she has used along with other papers and some gold stars in the RAK.
A Fairy card from Babydoc. My daughter adores fairies and I sure she will nab this one given the chance! A bookmark and RAK from Tiggertastic from the May swap. The may bookmark swap theme was cakes and I love this cute bookmark. Im guessing this one will be adopted by my daughter too. She is such an avid reader and often has several books on the go at any one time even though she is only 8 years old! Tiggertastic has even sent some lovely papers, ribbons and other crafty things. The male themed papers will be perfect for some birthdays that are coming up.
Two ATCs and a RAK from Lauren. The little pink bear is so cute and my daughter wants to claim this one to start her own ATC collection! The black and white ATC is simply stunning and looks just like a present! More naughty goodies to play with, die cuts, buttons card & beads! I think I need to find more crafting play time! Lauren has even sent my daughter some stickers too!
All of you have been so very generously naughty, but ever so NICE! Thank you soooo much. When I first began my blog 6 months ago I had no idea I would make so many internet buddies. You all mean so much to me and have inspired me in so many ways. Thanks again for your kindness.

| Caardvarks Challenge June 2, 2008 22:42:19Caardvarks is having a challenge to make a tag inspired by a month of the year. Thanks Lauren for sharing the link.
Here is my tag inspired by December.
Christmas is a busy time of shopping for gifts and also for those of you lucky enough it may also snow. I have combined these two things to create my tag.
The bag is actually from a double sided tag that I made from holographic shimmer card and then folded to create the bag shape. The background for the main tag is pearlescent card embossed with the snowflakes on my cuttlebug. The base of the handbag is also embossed with snowflakes too. I love the effect the embossing gives.
Have you noticed the bling on the bag? LOL Some green and red seed beads with gold crimps.
I had so much fun making this tag, I think I will probably be making quite a few of these come Christmas. - [Read more] |
| Cards Using Swiss Dots Embossing Folder and Cuttlebug May 31, 2008 23:49:37
Now that these cards have been given away I can now post them here. They are both constructed in basically the same way.
This is a run down of how I made them.
- Using my Cuttlebug and the Swiss Dots embossing folder I ran the cardstock through the machine to create the raised dots effect on the front. I left approximately one inch (2.5cm) unembossed.
- I then very lightly and randomly ran an ink pad over the dots to create a little more definition. (it is a tad difficult to see in the photos, but trust me its there) I used a copper colour on the pink card and jade green on the sage coloured card.
- For the pink card I added a strip of spotted paper printed from a freebie download(I cant quite remember where at the moment, but will post a link as soon as I find it). For the sage card I stamped a flourish using lavender ink and Hero Arts Designer Butterflies Clear Stamp set.
- Finally I added some ribbon to match.
These cards were so much fun to make and so quick too, less than 10 minutes each. I love cards that make up quickly, that look great and I will be using this basic design sketch again. By varying the colours, papers, stamps and embossing folders, I will be able to create many different and unique cards.
Why dont you have a go. If you dont have embossing folders, use something else instead. Try miniature stamps repeatedly stamped over the card or even textured cardstock or handmade paper. I would love to see your creations. Post a link in the comments and I will pop over for a peek! - [Read more] |
| Tinkerbell Fairy Costume May 26, 2008 22:11:29This is a sweet little girls costume I made for my DD and thought I would share with you. It sews up quickly and is made very basically without a pattern. I have made a few fairy costumes using the same simple method with great results.
All of the pieces of fabric are rectangles, including the petal shaped tulle tier. I cut the petal shapes after cutting out the rectangle. The bodice is made from a stretch dance fabric and the skirt is 3 layers - satin, snowflake organza and tulle. All the fabrics are in a Tinkerbell green except for the white organza. The skirt layers are gathered and then sewn onto the bodice before hemming. The straps were a pair of clear adjustable bra straps to make the outfit more like the original Tink dress.
To make Tinks wings I scanned a Disney Tinker bell dolls wings and then enlarged them to print out poster size. I then cut the wings from a large sheet of clear acetate, sprayed it with clear varnish and sprinkled it with holographic glitter before the varnish dried. To give the wings more stability and define the edges I taped wire all the way around. Lastly I punched a few holes in the center and inserted elastic so the wings could be put on and removed with ease.
What Tinkerbell Fairy costume would not be complete with a pair of Tink green slippers with a sparkly pom pom? I just traced around my DD foot, added about 2"(5cm) all round, then using 3 step zig zag I appliedthe elastic. I made a couple of cute pom poms from glitter wool and attached them to the slippers by hand.
To really make Tinkerbell fly, she needs her hair in a bun and tied with Tinkerbell green ribbon!
This was such a fun and easy costume to make and would be great for anyone beginning to sew. Just measure, cut and sew. - [Read more] |

| Organizing Ribbons May 12, 2008 22:00:12 Despite my recent lack of posting there has been so much going on around here. Lots of crafting, some sewing, the usual home duties and crafty organizing. I recently bought some more ribbon (not that I needed any more) but it was a bargain that I just couldnt pass on. This meant that my ribbons, previously stored neatly (yeah right!) in draws, was becoming too difficult to arrange and find easily. Here is a great idea to store your spools of ribbon.
After much thought I decided to put an unused shoe rack to a much better use. It now stores all of my spools of ribbon and it is so easy to see what I have. Some of the spools only had very small holes and would not fit onto the metal rod, so I used the dremel tool to make the holes larger. Now they fit perfectly.
Yes in case you are wondering there are more spools at the back. Most of those are stretch cord, satin cord and wired ribbons. I suppose you cant really tell that I LOVE RIBBON! The good news is, I am using ribbon a whole lot more. It is so easy to see and get to. I think I will have to carry this idea right through my craft room as I re-arrange and organize. Make things easy to use and put away, that way they will stay tidy! LOL thats the plan, so I will see how that goes.
How do you store your crafty things? Any ideas would be great I am constantly on the lookout for great way to store things.
DON"T FORGET: There are only a few days left to enter my Stepping Out Challenge. There have been some great entries thus far, so make sure you have a go. What you make is entirely up to you, it does not have to be a card at all. - [Read more] |

| Stepping Out Challenge with Blog Candy Give-away April 27, 2008 22:52:09I have been going a little Cuttlebug crazy recently (in case you hadnt noticed!) and I have created a few cards different to my usual tastes. I find it much easier to create projects that are pretty and in colours that I like.
I was inspired to do this when I found some paper and card that has been waiting to be used for some time. Colours I really dont like are yellow, red, brown and black. - [Read more] |

| Magnolia Stamp Challenge - Girls Party Hat April 18, 2008 22:20:08I have made this girls party hat for the Ribbon Challenge over at Tilda and Co. I wanted to create something a little bit different . I used the stamped image sent to me by Susie B and painted her using an aquawash paint pen. I then partially overlaid her with a paper doily spattered with Encore Metallic stamps using a paint brush. This was glued onto a pink card party hat that I traced from an - [Read more] |
| Cuttlebug and Big Bite Crop-a-dile! April 13, 2008 01:59:10Yippee! I have been spoiled. My DH bought me a cuttlebug, dies, embossing folders and a Crop-a-dile Big Bite! It is like Christmas!
Firstly my Cuttlebug is now my newest baby. It is portable, lightweight and so easy to use.
Its amazing! Now I know what all the fuss is about. I tested paper, card, felt and craft foam and all worked really well. In just a few minutes I managed to churn these - [Read more] |

Does anyone else have the same problem and you need a blogging break?

| Baby Onsie Cards with Pacifier (Dummy) April 5, 2008 00:00:01Just a quick post today with some cute baby onsie cards I have been making. I originally saw these made by Donna, and through her site I found Lauren Meader, who has a tutorial to make them.
With a set of twins (a boy and a girl) just born into the family recently I thought it was a perfect excuse to make some of these adorable cards.
I have made some cute button and bead pacifiers (dummies - [Read more] |
| Mushroom Pins and Pincushion March 30, 2008 00:38:26I discovered this tutorial yesterday and I just had to have a go. My air drying clay, was a little to hard and dry to use so I improvised and used Sculpey instead. I am not sure if air drying clay can be rejuvenated if it has not completely dried. I might test it to see if it can be used if I add some water to it. If any of you have any prior experience with this I would love to hear about it. - [Read more] |

It also has two surprises! 1) It is also a card and 2) the tag on the front slides to the side and underneath it is stamped! I love it in case you hadnt noticed!
I sent mine in for the swap a couple of weeks ago and now I can show you what I made for - [Read more] |
| Collecting Seeds and Free Printable Seed Packets March 25, 2008 23:36:06I collected some seeds from our parsley today and instead of keeping them in ordinary envelopes I decided to do some online searching for printable seed packets. Yes, I know I could have designed and printed some myself, but then where is the fun in finding some really great sites to share with you!
Here are a couple of links for you. I particularly like the origami seed packets that you can - [Read more] | |
