Looking For A Job? New Job Seekers / Resumes Category

Saturday, November 21st, 2009

I think by this point, we have all seen the numerous television and internet reports on the climbing jobless rates in this country. While some states have risen faster than others, the situation is pretty grim. Just yesterday I was reading a news story that said the national jobless rate is now over 10% with some states being dramatically higher.

There isn’t much many people can do about this besides continuously look for work. When you are up against thousands of other people for the same job, it’s easily understood that many people just want to give up.

After I read that depressing article yesterday, I got an idea. I went over to our “Employment” category on WebLeeg and poked around a bit. I noticed that we had tons of “Help Wanted” categories, but no categories for people who would like to advertise themselves…as people, as hardworking people, as hardworking people with marketable skills. How did we overlook this?

I think every little bit helps. If we (as a website) can set up a category in our employment area that helps people market themselves, then that’s what’s going to happen and that’s what we did. If you take a look now, you’ll find a “Job Seekers / Resumes” category under the main employment category. There, you are able to post your story and resume if you wish.

Okay, with anything like this, there are a few rules:

1. Don’t ruin this. Please don’t post junk. No one likes junk ads and we’ll try to clean them out daily if we find them.
2. Don’t post personally identifiable information. You shouldn’t post your name, phone number and other information that you might want to keep private. If a legitimate business is interested in you, they can contact you through our contact form. Also, don’t post your email address. That’s an invitation for spam. Keep is general like this: “Bright, motivated individual with ten years experience in manufacturing widgets available for full time work in the Miami, FL area.” Of course, you can add more details, but make it so the general public doesn’t know who you are. That’s just an all around basic internet rule.
3. Don’t spam people who are trying to find a job. It’s stressful enough dealing with this kind of thing, but when you have to put up with spammers, it makes matters worse.

If you have any suggestions on how we can make this area of our website even better, please contact us. We are always looking for suggestions. Thank you and good luck.
